The
Motus full motion flight simulator has been awarded FAA certification at
Windsong Aviation in Broomfield, CO. The FAA certification of the Motus flight
simulator, classified as Flight Training Device (FTD) Level 2, allows Windsong
Aviation flight students to log time toward achievement of primary and advanced
flight certificates, and for recurrent training. The
Motus simulator is manufactured by Fidelity Flight Simulation Inc. and employs
a patent-pending 6 degree-of-freedom motion base, similar to that of $15 million
airline simulators. The standard Motus flight simulator carries a base price of
$150,000, making this technology available to a far broader flight training market.
"The general aviation pilot has never been able to take advantage of these
kinds of training tools," says Graham Hodgetts, President of Fidelity Flight
Simulation. "We can for the first time make airline-type motion simulation
available to the general aviation pilot, where it's going to have the biggest
impact on aviation safety." "This
has been a long and detailed process," claims Mr. Hodgetts. "This is
the first ever certification of an affordable motion-based flight training device,
and the FAA subjected the technology to a high level of scrutiny." Windsong
Aviation incorporates the Motus flight simulator into its flight training program.
"Our clients are enjoying the added level of training that we offer,"
says Rod Tipton, President of Windsong Aviation. "They know that we are able
to offer training for the beginning pilot all the way to recurrent training for
the experienced pilot. Our flight training device offers an element of training
not available anywhere else for the general aviation pilot." The
software driving the Motus flight simulator can be configured to simulate a wide
range of flight models. This software platform also allows Fidelity Flight Simulation
to easily adapt the simulator to meet future needs. "The Motus software platform
will allow Windsong to easily upgrade its simulator as it's training requirements
change or to integrate new technologies," claims Mr. Hodgetts. "Windsong
isn't committed to a technology that may soon be obsolete." Windsong's
Motus simulator includes Fidelity's RealVision external display. RealVision
is a four-monitor, wrap-a-round external view designed to make the simulator as
suited for visual training as it is for instrument training. Windsong students
can fly into most major and mid-sized airports around the world. What airports
do not exist can easily be added to the Motus flight simulator, with all necessary
navaids and approaches. Fidelity
Flight Simulation, Inc. is the leader in affordable, full motion flight simulation.
